*REMINDER

Things You'll Need:

  • Soap and water
  • Cotton swab
  • Multi-vitamin
  1. 1
Treat your new lip piercing as a wound. Generally speaking, it is a new wound. It is a puncture into your flesh that needs to be properly taken care of on a regular basis. Your body knows what it needs to do naturally to heal, but by taking care of it will help aide in the healing process. Your body tries to protect itself from bacteria entering into the body so it does not get an infection, and you need to help protect it too.
  2. 2
Keep your hands clean at all times. Wash your hands frequently throughout the day, especially before you touch your piercing. If someone else is going to touch it, make sure they also wash their hands. Proper hand washing before touching your lip piercing will significantly reduce your chances of getting an infection.
  3. 3
Use Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen will help keep the swelling and tenderness down to a minimum and help take some of the pain away. Taking Vitamin B with Zinc can also help in the healing process. If possible, begin taking Vitamin B with Zinc months before you get your piercing done so the vitamin is already in your system. You can take a multi-vitamin even for overall health.
  4. 4
Use soap and water to clean. Very gently completely cleanse the area with soap and water using a cotton swab or cotton ball. Gently remove any build up that formed around the piercing at least twice a day. If you do not, the puss may have hardened, making it for an even more painful removal.
  5. 5
Brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day. Your mouth is designed to naturally fight off bacteria. Brushing and flossing your teeth helps get rid of bacteria in the mouth and helps with good oral hygiene. This way your mouth can do its job to fight off bacteria. You can also rinse with a salt water mixture to speed up the healing process and it keeps your mouth sanitized too.
  6. 6
Turn the piercing in your lip at least twice a day. You can not take it out during the healing process, but by turning it will help it not to stick or heal improperly.
